Why is Smoking Bad for You

When you look at a cigarette you don’t see a whole bunch. I mean there is some tobacco rolled in paper and depending on your preference there may be a filter. Once you add fire to a cigarette things change dramatically.

Did you know that cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals? Hundreds of which are toxic or cause harm and at least 43 are know to cause cancer. Some of these chemicals are found naturally in the tobacco while many others are added by the cigarette companies to enhance flavor.

The most dangerous chemical is an odorless and colorless gas called carbon monoxide which is caused by the burning of a cigarette. It takes the place of oxygen in your blood and prevents your body from getting all the needed oxygen to the organs.

Common Chemicals Found in Cigarette Smoke

  • Acetylene
  • Acetone
  • Ammonia
  • Cyanide
  • Formaldehyde
  • Methanol
  • Strychnine

Many of these are poisons! This is what you are breathing in everyday you smoke and this is what you are exposing your friends and family too. Not to mention that nicotine too is a poison… Many only think of it as an addictive drug but in fact it is a powerful poison that if even a small drop of pure nicotine was ingested by a person it would kill them. There is no reason a person should continue to smoke. There are many methods people use to quit smoking and there is stop smoking help available.
